まず説明するものの概念を明確にする言葉が先頭に必要です。 Go isa gameplayed ... とgameという言葉は大切です。
grid boardはちょっと乱暴です。a board with a grid having a lot of intersectionsのくらいのがいいと思います。
使う碁石は一つではありませんからstonesと複数形にする必要があります。
Players enclose this boardではplayersが碁盤を囲んでいることになってしまいます。
碁石を置いて目を囲むという説明をしなければなりません。 例 Players alternately put black and white stones on the intersections. The one enclose the larger number of intersections with his stones is the winner.

traditional Japanese game でもかまいませんが, 将棋のように英語圏にもチェスという似たものがある場合はJapanese chessと説明した方がピンときますね。
thick wooden board 将棋板は厚い板のこともありますが、そうとはかぎりません。
captor は someone who is keeping another person prisoner という意味の名詞で動詞はcaptureです。
